We'll pick safe defaults based on your answer. You can change every setting individually later.

Low-risk community organizer

Neighborhood association, PTA, park cleanup. You want to be findable. Profile visible to group members; map pin shows your city.

Medium-risk advocate

Housing, climate, voting rights. Profile visible to co-members only; public pages show handle only. Default.

High-risk organizer

Repro rights, trans healthcare, immigration defense, labor organizing where retaliation is real. Profile fully private; no map pin; messages auto-delete after 1 week.

My cause could get me in trouble (with employer, landlord, state, or physical safety). Checking this forces the strictest defaults regardless of which preset you picked above.

What a stranger will see.

Based on your answers, here is exactly what your profile will show to the public web and to search engines:

Right now:

Nobody outside the groups you join can see your handle, bio, or cause tags.

Search engines (Google, Bing) will not index your profile.

Your location is set to none. Map pin is off.

Direct messages default to off from strangers.

You can change any of these in Settings → Visibility at any time. There is a live preview there too.
